Windows based hosting accounts now support secure sending (SMTPS) and receiving (POPS,IMAPS) of email utilising SSL technology. This technology ensures that you do not send your passwords unencrypted to our servers which assists in protecting the security of your email.
Our mail servers now support the following secure versions of common protocols:
- POPS
- IMAPS
- SMTPS
- HTTPS (Webmail)
This additonal level of security helps protect your username/password but it is important that you understand that we do not encrypt the mail when sent to the recipients. Therefore you should still show appropriate consideration when sending sensitive information.
In order to utilise the SSL technology it is necessary for you to connect to the real server name rather than the vanity name that we provide you when you host your domain (eg. mail.example.com). The reason for this is that in order to utilise SSL technology a certificate has to be installed that corresponds with the hostname that you connect to, your email client will then cross reference the hostname you specify within your email client with the one returned by our server certificate. If they do not match you will receive a warning.
If you would like to use the SSL technology please contact the helpdesk and they will advise the hostname of the server hosting your email. |
